I love this time of year. The pollen has died down, the weather isn’t too hot yet, and the farmers markets are just getting started. You saw in the video that I did that I am growing my own little urban garden. Zucchini (taking over already), melons, tomatoes, herbs, peppers… It’s fun, but of course can’t sustain me by itself. Our local paper came out with a list of all the local farmers markets and the days and time they will be there. I have to admit I am a little embarrased to admit that I didn’t realize how many we have within close driving distance from my house. We live in a time where the inflow of events is as fast as the speed of light. At one point, you might find yourself sitting behind your desk, working on piles of unfinished tasks and in the next, pulling at your hair while you’re stuck in traffic when you just badly want to go home. On top of that, once you do arrive home, you remember that you don’t have food in your fridge and you end up settling for burger and fries. I was complaining on twitter last month that I was the only one on the block that didin’t get a tree from the city. I finally did, so I thought I would do super quick video. It’s a Kousa Dogwood, which quite frankly I had never heard of. It bears kousa fruit. How fitting that I would receive a fruit tree. Of course once it bears fruit I will think of all kinds of ways to use it.
Some of the best meals I’ve come up with over the years are out of necessity. You know, basically whatever you have on hand. And that’s what inspired this recipe (what I had in the fridge). I used to love it when my mom would make stuffed peppers. I was probably the only kid I know who actually liked green peppers. Well, I must have been feeling nostalgic because I was craving them and since the weathers heating up I figured my window to make these was closing.
